David Lee Bendt
| In MemoriamDave was a humble servant. Anyone who spent time with him felt his peaceful strength. His heart was always filled with joy when he was able to help others. He was actively involved at Front Range Church and loved to spend time with his church family. Motivated to serve the Lord and share Jesus’ love with everyone, he served as a disaster team lead with Samaritan’s Purse cleaning up communities devastated by tornados, fires and other disasters. He spent many of his days cutting down dead trees in the burned areas of Black Forest, CO as a service to his community through the ministry “Hope Restored.”
He built and renovated several homes throughout his life. David had a passion for helping others in any capacity with projects of their own. In everything he worked with the utmost care and attention to detail.
David was born in Sioux Falls, SD and attended elementary school there. When he was 8 years old he moved with his family to a farm outside Valley Springs, SD. In 1982 he married Ione Star of Corsica, SD, and shortly thereafter was offered a full time position in the Air National Guard in Sioux City, IA. He raised his family in and around Sgt. Bluff, IA. He loved to explore with his family and go on many outdoor adventures. He retired from the Guard in 2011.
David and his wife Ione moved to Colorado in 2013 and enjoyed being closer to their children and grandchildren.
They loved to hike and bike and spend time in nature as well as to escape into the national forests in Colorado with their camper. Dave helped his kids with many projects as the “ever knowledgeable handyman.” His favorite retirement gig was playing with his two young grandsons.
